About the Institute of Practical Leadership
Our Story
Leadership is often taught through models, principles and concepts. Those things matter. But managers still have to walk into a meeting, speak to another person and decide what to say next. That gap between knowing leadership theory and applying it in a real workplace is where IPL began. The Institute of Practical Leadership was created around a simple idea: leadership development should be practical enough to use when the conversation becomes real. Our resources are designed to help managers prepare for difficult conversations, give useful feedback, set clearer expectations, address performance issues, build accountability and strengthen working relationships.
We focus on practical leadership because managers rarely need more jargon. They need better tools, clearer thinking and greater confidence in applying good leadership principles.
Practical tools. Better leaders. Stronger workplaces.

What Practical Leadership means to us
Practical Before Theoretical
Leadership principles matter most when managers can translate them into useful actions and conversations.
Clear without being scripted
Our frameworks provide structure without requiring managers to sound rehearsed or unnatural.
Fair and Respectful
Good leadership combines clarity and accountability with listening, fairness and respect. Your everyday actions earn that respect.
Built for Real Workplaces
Our resources reflect the situations managers actually face – not idealised textbook conversations.
